What Is Your Why?

What Is Your Why?

Why do you do what you do?  Has the 'why' changed since you first began?

If you’ve ever heard the talk by Simon Sinek for TED about inspiring action, it’s not about what you sell, or what you create, it’s about why you do it that ultimately engages others.

Why do you want to a bring business, or talent to the world?  And this doesn’t have to be just on a business level.  Why do we do anything we do?

Meditation To Get Good At Life

Meditation To Get Good At Life

"We don’t meditate to get good at Meditation, we meditate to get good at life"

I love this expression, because for me it rings so true; for every delicious, blissful experience, there’s another one right around the corner that’s agitating, boring and quite frankly I can’t wait for it to be over!

(Apologies, I’m probably not making it very tempting right now, am I?)

However, every day regardless I still hit the meditation pillow without fail.  So, what gets me on that chair every day?

Mindful Eating

Mindful Eating

If you’re like most people, Christmas and New Year has been a bit of an over eating fest, and that’s totally okay to indulge every now and then, we have to live life and it’s definitely the time of year to enjoy!  However now we are getting back into the swing of the new year, it’s a great time to begin focusing on being mindful with the body, nurturing it, not only in what you eat, but how you eat.

I invite you to slow down and give this mindful eating exercise a go.

Where Our Attention Goes, Energy Flows

Where Our Attention Goes, Energy Flows

"The grass is greener where you water it."... I came across this saying earlier this month and have found myself wheeling it out on many occasions since, and it's given me much food for thought.

For me it represents that where we put our attention and our focus, that is where our energy flows, so that can either be on the present and what we have in our lives right now, or directing it elsewhere, outside of ourselves; wondering if something could be different if we were in new circumstances, perhaps a new job, a new city or a fresh relationship.

Would we be happier and feel more fulfilled?  When we reach that next destination, are we really going to be more satisfied?

Three Elements Of Self Compassion

Three Elements Of Self Compassion

Why is it easier to be compassionate to our friends or a loved when they're going through rough times, than it is to ourselves?

When things go wrong we have a tendency to be harsh, speak badly to ourselves, and get our minds in recurring thought patterns which can take us down the rabbit hole of self doubt, affecting our self worth, and even our health.

Self compassion is a powerful way of improving our wellbeing.  It's scientifically linked to being happier, more satisfied, grateful and optimistic; while simultaneously reducing the negative, contributing to less anxiety, depression, stress and over perfectionism.

Reducing Stress In The Modern World

Reducing Stress In The Modern World

Ever feel like you have too many balls in the air, tasks on the go, or just too much load to carry?  In our modern lifestyles I don't know anyone who is immune to the pressures we all face, trying to juggle work, family, plus just time for your own self care, it's exhausting just thinking about it all sometimes!

Stress has become a chronic condition in our lives, and the UN has gone as far as calling it the 21st century health epidemic.  80-90% of diseases are stress related, and it's a factor in nearly 5 of 6 deaths, yet we continue on with our busy lives, not really paying heed to warning signals.

Meditation - It's Not What You Think!

Meditation - It's Not What You Think!

People are so stressed and running at such a fast pace these days, that there's a yearning for something to help slow us down and get more satisfaction out of our daily lives.  There are almost 10,000 pieces of scientific research now that mindfulness and meditation improves our health, from increased mental clarity, improved immune function, lowering anxiety, pain management, to better sleep.

However so many people I speak to feel like they can't meditate, and if you fit into this category I would like to attempt to challenge your perception of what meditation is.

What IS healthy eating?

What IS healthy eating?

What constitutes healthy eating?  There is so much conflicting information out there and ways of approaching the food we consume.  Be it Paleo, gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, low fat, no carb, vegetarian, it is often hard to know which way to turn.

Firstly the biggest key to eating well is "Real Food", meaning wholefoods that are unprocessed, local and organic where possible.  As Michael Pollan says who wrote the best selling book Food Rules, "Don't eat anything your grandmother wouldn't recognise as food!"

Curveballs .... Are Our Practices Working?

Curveballs .... Are Our Practices Working?

What happens when we are practicing all the right things with our health and wellbeing, but then life throws us a curveball (or several)?

Having been through incredible changes in the last few months, I have come to see first hand that even when you use everything in your "toolbox", that sometimes they don't work the way you may anticipate.

How do we navigate when we are meditating, practicing mindfulness, eating well and exercising, but suddenly these methods seem to desert us?  Or don't seem to be enough to do the trick?

Empathy - A Gateway For Change

Empathy - A Gateway For Change

The School Of Life led a dynamic panel last night on Empathy In Australia, where many critical topics we face such as the refugee crisis, global conflict, violence in our homes, internet trolls, and the rise of individualism in western culture, were discussed to investigate how empathic behaviour can have an impact on our society.

However while they were dealing with the bigger issues, it also lead us down a path of exploring how empathy can have a significant effect on our own daily lives, and the lives of people around us.  That we can't just leave it up to our political leaders to create social change.

Am I Being Attacked By A Tiger??

Am I Being Attacked By A Tiger??

I am sitting writing this on a plane, and 5 minutes prior to my flight I seem to have accidently deleted my entire email history, calendar appointments, and who knows what else that I haven't realized yet, in an attempt to speed up my Mac.

Sheer panic flooded my body.... the fight or flight syndrome kicking in, however I am not being attacked by a tiger here!  Yet in our 21st century world you would think that a pack of them were suddenly launching themselves upon me..... Breathe
