How kinesiology can help with anxiety

Anxiety is on the rise, with over 2 million Australians experiencing symptoms in a 12 month period, it has become the most common mental health condition in Australia.  I would say that statistic is probably a lot larger, because these only come from reported cases and a lot of people don’t necessarily go to a GP to address it.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety, can be defined by persistent, excessive worries that don't go away even in the absence of a stressor, but the physical reactions are similar as if you were under threat.

Stress and anxiety are very similar experiences, except that stress is usually external, a pressure that is coming from the outside, whereas anxiety stems from the inside.   It’s an internal reaction.

The primary emotion of Anxiety is an expression of fear.  Fear is an emotional and physiological response to perceived threat.   The emotion of fear, or any emotion for that matter is endeavouring to get us to take action.

Fear can be experienced when there is no actual danger.  It is enough that something is perceived as threatening.  It usually starts as a thought form, and you may not even be aware of the thought form that started it, but then the physical process has been kicked into action.

It’s usually a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come.  It’s quite natural when you may have situations like speaking in front of a group, starting something new, perhaps going on a date, or an interview, all of these can cause most people to feel a little fearful and nervous.

However, in general, our anxiety levels are increasing due to a world that feels a little overwhelming and unpredictable.

Our brain has a natural negative bias that projects into the future to worry about all the what if’s.  This is where the fear and overwhelm come in as it is wired for survival and wants to keep you safe, so it loves to think of all the ways life can go wrong.

To contribute even further to that, most of our fears and beliefs are tied up in our past experiences and sit in the subconscious to make up a huge 95% of the mind, when these get triggered they rise to the surface even if we don’t directly correlate them with past events, and this creates anxiety in the system.

These patterns can have an enormous impact on your current day life even though the circumstances that caused them are long gone.

How can Kinesiology Help?

Kinesiology, through a process called muscle monitoring, allows you to uncover that patterning as well as the underlying emotions, so you can begin to understand what is causing the anxiety and then you can clear the old beliefs that are tied up with the fear and overwhelm.

We can also work with your nervous system to help calm the body and mind and bring emotional balance.  When you are experiencing anxiety, you are in your sympathetic nervous system, this is the fight or flight mode, or what we call the stress response.

A part of balancing your nervous system is bringing in a feeling of safety to the body and creating a more balanced nervous system, relieving the anxiety itself.

With a blend of western and eastern techniques, we help release the pressure, everything from specific acupressure points to brain function processes, nutritional remedies and counselling, to the more metaphysical treatments such as energy work, flower essences, crystals, essential oils, sound, and oracle cards.

A session can incorporate a range of these tools, whether we are working together in person or online.

Just as importantly we also discuss what you can do ongoing to create lifestyle shifts that will support your mental wellbeing.  As well as give you tools and techniques that you can use on a regular basis such as breathwork to keep your nervous system calm.

While you gain a huge benefit from one session, I recommend a few sessions to clear longer term emotional patterns.

Clients report a significant shift in their anxiety levels and develop coping mechanisms for when they get triggered in the future.

So if you’re experiencing anxiety, know that it is something that you can navigate and overcome.
